Dine In
A couple of weeks back, we were invited for a curated experience by #EazyDiner Mumbai. This was in collaboration with Paul John Whiskey and the venue was #Ummarao at Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai.
Aditya welcomed us all as he is the connoisseur for Paul John Whiskey.
Founded in 1996, Paul John is an indigenous brand. With sales of more than 15 million cases, John Distilleries is also the manufacturer of the world's sixth-largest whisky brand - Original Choice Whisky. Paul John, a single malt whisky from John Distilleries, has been gaining a reputation in the niche market. Its other major brands include Bangalore Malt, Black Pelican Fine Whisky, Mont Castle French Grape Brandy and Big Banyan Wines. Sazerac, the second-largest family-owned spirits company in the US, has taken a strategic investment in John Distilleries. - Source Paul John Whiskey Website
We started with Ummrao Special Whiskey sour made with Paul John’s Nirvana! It was simply delicious. One of the best whiskey sours I have tasted. Did not have a strong whiff or egginess which I am not very fond of!
The Vegetarian Degustation Menu was delectable and was perfectly paired with various whiskeys to come our way. Full credit to Chef Mukhtar Qureshi and his team.
First of it all was – Nadru Ki Shami (Lotus Stem Patty) with Tandoori Broccoli. This was a creamy patty who’s texture was more like a Galauti Kebab.
Whiskey – Paul John Brilliance ( Single Malt)
2. Ummarao Avatar-E Haleem ( broken wheat lotus root) with Rampuri Paneer
We were surprised with the fact that there was a vegetatian haleem. Rich in flavor and texture this dish !
Whiskey – Paul John Oloroso Select Cask (Single Malt Select Cask)
3. Lauki and Matar ke Kofte with Dum Ki Kabuli Dal.
Another delicious dish served for the main course and the dal was outstanding.
Whiskey – Paul John PX Select Cask (Single Malt Select Cask)
4. Bagare Gucchi Pulao served with bhurrani Raita and Salan
Ummrao has been popular for its biryanis and pulaos. This was no exception. And especially the raita which had a subtle garlic flavor.
Lemon based whiskey cocktail using – Paul John Nirvana
5. Mishtan Rooh –E-Ummrao ( Shahikhubani tart)
A very unique desert indeed. This was served along with handchurned Kulfi.
Whiskey – Paul John XO brandy
We finished our dinner with the star of the evening –Paul John Mithuna – the great Indian Single Malt.
Mithuna by Paul John, of the Paul John Zodiac series, is named after the Indian counterpart of the 3rd Zodiac sign Gemini. Unpeated. Non chill-filtered. Matured in American virgin oak casks and finished in ex-bourbon casks.
Overall it was a quite delightful evening with best of hospitality and delectable food paired with some brilliant whiskey.
