Review : Buddha Bar Cafe, Varkala

Buddha Bar is a popular name across various cities in the world. Flaunting the similar name, Buddha Bar Café in North Cliff is yet another cool place to hangout in Varkala.

Its located in the busy shopping area of the cliff and just few steps from the Helipad. So even if you are not staying in north cliff, getting here is not a task.

We went there for a dinner and we were welcomed by the owner Vishnu. Buddha Bar Café has an open kitchen where you can see your food being prepared. Vishnu briefed us about the café. Although this café is merely a year old, the family has been in the industry for a very long time ( more than 29 years) and it won’t be wrong to say they were the pioneers of the café culture here in Varkala.

Here is what we had-

Veg Momos (INR 180)

As their main chef – Kishan is Nepali, he was hands on with the momos. The dip / chutney served along the momos was too good !

We also had refreshing cocktails which were made to perfection. I must say there are some very talented bartenders in Varkala!

Greek Salad (INR 220) The dressing of this salad uplifted the flavours.

Penne Arrabiata (INR 260)

Beetroot Thoran (INR 200) with Chapati. We are so glad we ordered this. We contemplated about it as we weren’t sure how would it be eating a traditional dish at a bar. But to our surprise, this turned out to be super delicious!

Throughout the meal we could see the eye for detailing by Vishnu and his team( Subhash and Ashiq). All their recommendations were good. Plating was given special attention from him which was a brownie point. #Cocktails were outstanding.

During our conversation with Vishnu, his ideas and future events at Buddha Bar Café made us feel its quiet up there with any popular Goan Café.

Buddha Bar Café hosts Live Gigs, Open Mic nights and Karaoke as well.

Cafe has a rooftop space and ample open space in totality.
