Review : Darjeeling Cafe, Varkala

Location : North Cliff, Varkala

Date : 26th Jan 2022

Dinner

We collaborated with Darjeeling Café, Varkala last month during our stay in #Varkala . From the very beginning of this collab our experience has been pleasant.

The owner Binod is from Darjeeling and most of his staff members are from the same region too. Very warm and welcoming.

Darjeeling Café is more like a #shack with the seating facing the sea, officering one the best views from North Cliff. The moment you see the Café the first thing that catches your attention is this huge dream-catcher.

The seating is in a steps kind of a way so everyone gets the best view of the sunset and the sea without any hindrance.

The #breakfast menu is quite elaborate with Indian and continental choices.

Menu comprises of variety of shakes, smoothies juices and coolers.

We went there for a sun-downer. The staff here was super enthusiastic and not just with us with every guest as we could see.

We started our evening with cocktails –

Screwdriver ( INR 300) and Mango Diaquiri (INR 300) both were quite potent and absolutely value for money especially considering the portion.

For nibbles we opted for Pakoda (INR 120) as the sunset and the beach vibes made us crave for some. These were assorted vegetable and Paneer Pakodas

While we sipped on our drinks, we could see the staff decorating the tables with fresh flower petals and they did so very cheerfully ! It’s the small gestures like these make you smile isn’t it ?

As the evening progressed, we moved to the main course.

From the Sandwiches, we had Italian Rhapsody – A friend eggplant and olives stuffed sandwich in an Onion Garlic Sauce with baby spinach. This came with a side of hand cut fries.

From the pasta section we ate Eggplant Pomodoro ( INR 300 ) A roasted eggplant pasta preparation. The only thing offputting was that they had added green peas to it.

We also had Ginger Lemon Soda ( (INR 50) and Ginger Beer ( INR 150) this one was with Pineapple juice along with ginger and lemon )

Darjeeling Café has a decent Indian menu with curries, gravies and dals as well.

Kerala being a predominantly non vegetarian state, for non vegetarians it’s a heaven. The menu comprises of varied chicken, beef and seafood dishes.

Apart from our meal experience, we passed by this café several times. Each time it had a vibe with the right music and liveliness that the customers enjoyed thoroughly. Darjeeling cafe was always buzzing even when a lot of other cafes were empty. The staff was super super friendly they would smile and wave at us every time they’d see us even the next day and one after that. Its also animal friendly. You'll see dogs and cats around and you will catch them chilling here just like you!
