Sky-Garden of the B-Town @ Verbena

Updated: Dec 4, 2019

Location – Kamala Mills , Lower Parel

4th April 2017

How intriguing is it to know that there is a Sky Garden in the middle of an industrial mill compound i.e. Kamala Mill. Probably that’s what was the owner’s agenda – to give this city something unique. A place with vertical gardens. A city that lacks green space having a 3000 sq. ft. rooftop space with a soothing ambiance.

On a Tuesday evening a friend and I visited Verbena at around 7:30 pm. The entrance is a little confusing. But once there , the hospitality starts right from the concierge. I must say they have some efficient set of people. The Smiling Lady at the entrance showed us around and settled us at one of their loungy seating space. Very suitable for big groups too. Bar is very tastefully done with interesting jars and small plants etc.. In-spite of the fact that it was April Evening, they had maintained a very cooling atmosphere. Music played was matching the mature crowd ( Majority) . Mainly working adults. I happened to spot quite a few big groups of colleagues who chose to come here and chill with some E-sheeshas and Drinks.

Yes!  E Sheeshas . The first ever place in Mumbai to offer E -Sheeshas that’s minus Coal and Nicotine . Interesting isn’t it !

After admiring the surroundings and the Flying Horse. We finally settled and called for Drinks. They have a limited but very impressive drinks menu. I couldn’t have my eyes off the LIIT and that’s what we chose. Pepper Mint LIIT for my friend and a Orange and Clove LIIT for me. Mind you , these are really huge LIITs pricing just at Rs. 830 which is a steal deal ! 180 ml of alcohol mixed with botanical extracts and topped with lemonade making it a very potent drink. Also the Jar ( it can not be served in a glass ) is super heavy that makes up for the work out for your hand 😉 One drink and you are sorted!

Though they have quite a few healthy options for Salads , Quinoa Bowls and Healthy Mains , We opted for the usual junk 😉

Here’s what we had

APPETIZERS

A vegetarian platter that comprises of below

Tandoori Achari Broccoli – Best broccoli I have tasted so far ! Char grilled and pickled big pieces of Brocolli. They didn’t overdo the pickling. Top pick!

Jaituni Mushroom – Again pickled & spiced olive & parsley stuffed  mushrooms. These were my second favourite.

Bharwan Adraki Paneer – Center has Spiciness from Ginger , Aroma coming from the basil. Something close to Reshmi Kebab if one wants to relate it.

Khas Galauti – Bamboo shoot and water chestnut minced galauti on Saffron Taftan . It had a slightly crisp layer on the outside whereas the inside of the kebab was super soft.

We also had the Tri Hummus with Pita Bread. Olive oil floating on it. They had served some home style nachos along with it. Pretty decent.

MAINS

We wanted to taste both Indian and oriental from their mains.

We had Pindi Chole with Kulche. Pindi Chole were on point. But Kulche were too sweet. Way too sweet for our liking.

Next mains was Veg Chopper Rice Stir Fried Veggies With Sichuan Sauce. Not too spicy. Lot of finely diced veggies and hot rice was all we needed after our LIIT.

DESSERT

You can not miss this dessert here. It has such different compotes and all of those work so beautifully together.  Chocolate Bourbon Toffee Crunch has the bourbon flavoured slightly bitter and tanginess coming from Raspberry. Beautiful!
