We had stayed at Novotel OMR Chennai in the month of March and we happened to be there on their Easter Special Sunday Brunch. This blog post shares a detailed experience of it.
The Square, their all-day dining restaurant hosts Sunday brunches which are quite popular in the city. It is said that you can even spot a southern celebrity or two having a lavish brunch here.
So upon arrival at The Square we noticed how spacious and naturally bright this restaurant was!
It was an Easter Sunday, so we headed straight for the Easter Brunch that looked too tempting to walk away from! It was undoubtedly one of the most extensive brunches I have seen. Their Executive chef – Sarvanan R., met us at the restaurant and briefed us about his work experience in the middle east. No wonder they had such a fabulous spread when it came to Middle Eastern dishes.
Being in Chennai, there’s no doubt there’d be authentic Tamil fare. So at the beginning of the buffet itself, we could see a medley of dishes.
Everything at the brunch- from the bread section to the salad bar, Asian counter, and Easter Sunday Egg Station was fabulous.
The dessert section deserves a special mention. There were pies, tarts, macaroons, pastries and not to forget some delicious Indian desserts as well.
The restaurant had a little alfresco seating area where they had set up a Bombay counter. Which served – Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, and waffles.
We also tasted some dishes which the chef got prepared specially for us.
Paalkatti milagu perattal- A regional Paneer dish that was really great with its indigenous flavors. We then had Dahi ke kabab. Too good!
The Potato Gnocchi with Fresh Basil Pesto was outstanding! A pesto fan that I am, the freshness of it brightened up my mood.
For the veg momos, I loved the way the packaging and the presentation was interesting.
For mains, we had a Tomato Corn Bharta and what the chef called his version of Focaccia Naan – ‘The Olive Chili Naan’. This Naan not only looked beautiful but was a treat for bread lovers. It was loaded with olives and herbs.
So apart from this, we had already picked up a few items from the buffet which were
smoked pumpkin soup, hummus, baba ganoush, some chaat and stir fried rice from the live counter that was paired with vegetables in black bean sauce.
The brunch went on for a couple of hours and we ate with our hearts full.
Special mention for chef and bala !
Here is a reel covering our Easter Special Brunch.
